Food processing sector sees signing of Rs 2,181 crore worth ‘Letters of Intent’ in Bihar

Bihar Government has signed 14 ‘Letters of Intent’ during the Food Processing Investors’ meet, entailing an investment of Rs 2,181 crore, which is likely to create 4,175 employment opportunities. The ‘Letters of Intent’ were signed to bolster the State’s agro-industrial ecosystem.

The major investments include Hyderabad-based Grus & Grade’s fully automated hi-tech poha plant, bio-fuel production facility and other projects worth Rs 905 crore and SLMG Beverages’ Coca-Cola bottling unit worth Rs 700 crore. Further, Baba Agro Food will set up a hi-tech flour mill worth Rs 160 crore, and Anand Dairy will invest Rs 50 crore for dairy plant. Madhubani Makhana’s Rs 25 crore for a makhana processing unit and Neeramay Foods’ Rs 27 crore makhana processing unit are also included. A biscuit manufacturing facility will also be set up.

Chirag Paswan, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, said, “There is immense potential for investment in the food processing sector in an agriculture-dominated state like Bihar. Investment in this sector will not only increase the agricultural productivity of the state but also strengthen the rural economy through increased income of farmers and value addition. With its rich food diversity, focus on quality and commitment to food safety, Bihar is poised to lead the way in the food processing sector.”
