The Agriculture department is opening ‘Ashraya’ farmer service centres for the delivery of digital services to the State’s farming community.
The centres are designed as a continuation of the ‘Kathir’ app (short for ‘Kerala Agriculture Technology Hub and Information Repository’) which was launched recently for offering farm-related services on a single digital platform
The proposed ‘Ashraya’ centres will ensure speedy delivery of digital services to the farmers, according to the department. Additionally, services such as the registration on the Agriculture Information Management System (AIMS) portal, registration for procurement of paddy, coconut and copra and the Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM) also will be offered by these centres.
The service charge levied by the centres will be at par with that of the Akshaya centres, a November 25 government order on the formation of the ‘Ashraya’ initiative said.
The aim is to have one centre each in every Krishi Bhavan limit in the long run, and the first Ashraya centre will be piloted this year in an agriculturally important region that has a sizeable population of small and marginal farmers, the department said.
The centres will be expanded depending on how successful the initiative is, but the idea is to have one in every Krishi Bhavan limit, it said. In the initial phase, the centres will be opened under the leadership of ‘Krishikootam’ collectives, KrishiShree and Agro Services Centres and the Karshika Karma Senas.
